## Keeping a Record for Your New Swans

I Remember how Bewildered we were with the First Swan we Rescued..
We knew we Loved “Handsome Fellow” .. But, we knew so little..
I was Seeking Info Everywhere..

ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs

“Handsome Fellow” was an Amazing Teacher..
We got through some VERY Difficult Days..
I am a “Never Give Up” Person.
It was our Crash Course of SWAN 101.

Review these Topic Pages so you are READY..
There is MUCH to Learn about Swans.. I am Learning Every Day.
There is Joy and Heartbreak when Loving Swans.
Hopefully, with Knowledge there will be more Joys.

Captive Swans are a Joy to Watch and Care for.
They have Interesting Behaviors that Change with the Seasons.

Swans All have Different Personalities.
There are some Common Behaviors..

The First Year with Swans will be a BIG Learning Curve..
Each of these Topic Pages will only take a Few Minutes to View..
But, you will get a LOT of Information this way..

Since you are Planning to Adopt Cygnets that will be 4-8 Months Old..
They will Basically be Old Enough to be Cared for as Adults..

As you Speak with the Families with the Cygnets..
And Start to make Plans to Adopt their Dear Cygnets…
Ask about the Feed they are Using..

ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs

>>> Except for being VERY CAREFUL with their Legs,
which are Fragile..
Try to be GENTLE with their Legs.

The First 4-5 Months the Legs of Swan Cygnets are Growing Fast..
Stretching into their Adult Shape and Size the Bone Structures are Thin..ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs
For the First Year their Legs can be Damaged if Mechanically Stressed.
With Time their Bone Development Changes to Strengthening the Bones.
More Minerals are Added to the Scaffold Bone Structures..
Firming them will take Another Year + Plus..

ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs

Swans are Considered Mature by 36 Months.. Their Bones will be Stronger..
but, Never as Solid as Mammal Bones.
Always Lighter to Allow for Flight.. Always Handle with Care.

## SWAN CYGNETs have FRAGILE LEGs

Being Young and UnRelated..  ( Important for Genetic Diversity.)

ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs

You and the Cygnets will have a Better Experience Adjusting
if you Shelter the Cygnets Together in a Secure Shelter for Several Days.

ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs

This way the Cygnets get to Know Each Other..and when they are Released
to your Pond/Lake they will be Less Afraid, Less Bewildered..
>>> NOT Two Bewildered Cygnets Heading in Different Directions.

During this Time.. Visit with them.. Talk to them.. Sit Quietly.
Have Family Children Read to them. Sing to them..
Let them get to Know you.   Be sure they are Eating.
Everything will be New.. Food, Smells, Sounds and People.

Before Release > > > CHECK THAT ONE WING is PINIONED.
ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs

## PINIONED or FULL Wing
https://swanlovers.net/category/pinioned-or-full-wing/
*************************

On the Day you Release the Cygnets to your Pond/Lake…
Have Several People there to Assist keeping them in the Water..

When Released to a New Body of Water, it is TYPICAL for Swans/Cygnets
to Swim to the Far Side of the New Body of Water..
ADOPTING YOUNG SWANs

AND it may take a Few Days for them to Come Back to where you are..
They are being Cautious.. This is Normal.. Trust Takes Time.. (-;

The Entire www.SwanLovers.net WebSite is a Work in Progress..
There are Many other Topic Pages Organized.. Not Listed here..
All are Available and So am I..
